Lilac City Kendo Club holds two different classes.

Our beginner classes are dedicated to new members who are just starting their kendo journeys. They learn the basics of kendo including footwork, stances, and strikes, as well as dojo etiquette, terminology, and kata (prearranged forms done with partners). For those interested in starting kendo and entering into our beginner classes, we accept new students on a quarterly basis so that each beginner cohort learns together with a consistent curriculum focused on establishing good basics.

Our main class is catered to those who have finished the beginner classes and are looking to continue into bogu (protective armor), as well as our ranked members. The main class consists of a mix of striking drills, footwork, practice and application of basic and advanced techniques, kata, and freeform sparring (jigeiko).  Many classes also include tournament practice and matches (shiai geiko), rank testing preparation and practice (shinsa geiko), and other exciting and beneficial drills.

For those interested in starting kendo and entering in our beginner class, we accept new students on a quarterly basis so that each beginner cohort learns together with a consistent curriculum focused on establishing good basics.
